VISION PLANS:
Typically cover a routine vision exam once a year as a wellness visit for healthy patients who have no problems or symptoms but just need a prescription for glasses. They may/may not have coverage towards an exam to obtain a prescription for contact lenses. They do NOT cover visits for medical conditions, injuries, and/or treatments.
MEDICAL INSURANCES:
Typically cover a limited office visit or comprehensive medical eye exam when you have an eye disease or eye problem such as an infection ("pink eye"), dry eyes, allergies, or cataracts or a medical problem that can affect your eyes such as headaches, floaters, or diabetes to name a few. In some cases medical insurances will ALSO cover routine examinations for patients who just need a prescription for glasses or contact lenses and are otherwise healthy.
Sometimes there is no way to know prior to your examination which type of insurance will be the right one with which to file your claim. This is based on the reason for your visit and the results of your examination. Coverage will be verified before your exam but we are NOT responsible for discrepancies once the claim is filed. If you have any questions, please let us know before your appointment. If we are not in network with your medical insurance or vision plan, we can provide you with an itemized receipt so that you may seek reimbursement from your insurance company.
